Cloud Architect, Sr. Principal | General Dynamics Information Technology

The Tone:
This is a regular, full-time role at General Dynamics Information Technology, located in Offutt AFB, NE. General Dynamics Information Technology is a global technology and professional services company that delivers technology solutions and mission services to every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence community. This role makes meaningful contributions that fuel critical outcomes for some of the most complex government projects, directly supporting the mission of USSTRATCOM by providing essential cloud architecture expertise. Your work will directly impact national security and the safety of the U.S. and its allies.

• Mission: This person will ensure mission success and safety for the U.S. and its allies by providing cloud architecture expertise for USSTRATCOM’s 24/7 IT services, supporting strategic deterrence and national security operations.
• Tech Stack: AWS, Azure, NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS, SAP/SAR, DevSecOps approaches, CI/CD pipelines

What You’ll Actually Do
• Architecture Definition: Develop and define the overall cloud architecture, providing input into design and operational activities based on best practices tailored to USSTRATCOM’s needs and infrastructure.
• Security Integration: Integrate application, server, network security, and government requirements such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and ATO processes into cloud solutions.
• Product Evaluation: Participate in the product evaluation and selection process for cloud technologies and services.
• Strategy Contribution: Provide architecture expertise and assist in the development of products and deliverables to further USSTRATCOM’s strategy and goals for transitioning to a Cloud hosting model.
• Market Research: Manage the research and evaluation of current market trends, best practices, and preferred architectural approaches to ensure solutions match service and agency needs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree (may be substituted for additional years of experience) with a comprehensive understanding of cloud architecture models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and hybrid environments.
• Experience: 10+ years of related experience with major cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and government-specific cloud services, as well as familiarity with systems design documentation and architectural artifacts.
• Skills: Current/active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI status, ITIL 4 Foundation certified within 9 months of start, 8140 Certification, deep familiarity with federal security and compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP, RMF, ATO processes), understanding of DoD security requirements, cybersecurity controls, and secure design principles, knowledge of network, application, and infrastructure security concepts, and awareness of identity and access management, PKI, encryption standards, logging, monitoring, and audit requirements.
