Finance Intern | Plunkett’s Pest Control

The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at Plunkett’s Pest Control, located in Fridley, MN. Since 1915, Plunkett’s has been a family-owned company, operating across 22 states with primary offices in Fridley, MN, and Columbus, OH. This role offers a meaningful opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience within the finance department, specifically focusing on critical accounts payable functions, thereby building practical finance skills directly applicable to a future career.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time (12 to 20 hours per week, with flexibility around class schedules during the school year)
• Location: In-person, Fridley, MN

• Team: Finance department
• Mission: To support Plunkett’s financial operations by accurately managing accounts payable, reviewing corporate credit card transactions, and assisting with essential month-end close activities and analytical projects.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and lookup functions), AP system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Bill Processing: Accurately enter bills into the accounts payable system, ensuring correct coding and proper classification for financial records.
• Expense Review: Systematically review company credit card charges, verifying accurate coding and confirming the presence of compliant receipts for all transactions.
• Project Contribution: Provide essential support for various analytical projects initiated by the finance team, assisting with data gathering or reporting as needed.
• Month-End Support: Aid the finance team with a range of tasks required during the month-end closing process, contributing to timely financial reporting.
• Professional Interaction: Engage in effective and professional communication, both in writing and verbally, with internal colleagues and external contacts as part of daily financial operations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Must be currently pursuing either a 2-year or 4-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related academic field.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, specifically including the ability to create and utilize pivot tables and lookup functions for data analysis.
• Skills:
• Strong professional communication abilities across various channels, including phone, email, and text.
• Possesses a strong and consistent attention to detail in all tasks and data entries.
• Capable of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English clearly for effective workplace interaction.
• Must be able to work onsite at the company’s office location in Fridley, MN.
