Store Manager in Training | Rural King

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Rural King, commencing at an assigned store with an expectation of relocation for promotion to Store Manager. Rural King is America’s Farm and Home Store, a constantly expanding organization with over 150 locations across 17 states, providing essential products and a unique shopping experience to rural communities. This position is vital for cultivating future store leaders who will master all aspects of store operations, deliver exceptional customer service, and foster a positive, people-first environment for both associates and customers.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time (50-hour workweek, 10-hour shifts, 5 days per week, varied hours)
• Location: In-person, at an assigned store (relocation expected for promotion)

• Team: Operates under the supervision of a Store Manager, responsible for directing all store personnel, including Assistant Store Managers.
• Mission: To acquire and apply comprehensive knowledge of retail operations, customer service, and merchandising, preparing for successful leadership and management of a Rural King store.
• Tech Stack: Computer, Telxon gun, forklift, pallet jack, scanning system, wireless hand-held unit, Excel, Word

What You’ll Actually Do
• Store Operations Development: Develop a deep understanding of day-to-day store operations, customer service protocols, and effective merchandising strategies under direct supervision.
• Team Leadership & Performance: Directly supervise all store personnel, provide daily goals to Assistant Store Managers, and serve as a positive role model to drive revenue and meet sales targets.
• Associate Training & Culture: Recruit, train, and develop team members, lead associates using established leadership principles, and foster a positive, professional work atmosphere.
• Customer & Issue Resolution: Find proactive solutions to associate and customer questions and concerns, ensuring excellent customer service and associate satisfaction.
• Asset Management & Compliance: Maximize inventory control, implement loss prevention techniques, ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds, and maintain store cleanliness and appearance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Managerial career level with core domain knowledge in retail operations, encompassing customer service, merchandising, and loss prevention practices.
• Experience: 2+ years of prior retail management experience, demonstrating proficiency in supervising associates and achieving sales goals.
• Skills: Computer knowledge in Excel and Word, strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the capacity to multitask and work independently.
• Bonus: Flexibility to work a 50-hour week with varied shifts including nights and weekends, an outgoing self-starter personality, and eligibility to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL).
