Court Security Officer | Allen County War Memorial Coliseum

The Tone:
This is a full-time position at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, located in Fort Wayne, IN. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of designated Allen County buildings, including the Courts, for all employees, the public, and detainees. The Court Security Officer plays a direct role in enforcing laws, operating security systems, and protecting property, thereby upholding the integrity and functionality of the county’s justice system.

• Mission: To maintain the security of designated county buildings by monitoring the conduct of the public and detainees, ensuring the safety of all individuals and property within.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Building Security: Maintain the safety and security of the Allen County Courts, all county employees, the public, and county inmates in designated Allen County buildings, specifically the Allen County Courthouse, Bud Meeks Justice Center, and Allen County Court Annex.
• Access Management & Contraband: Operate and manage the respective Building Entry Security Systems, including X-Ray machines and Magnetometers, to ensure only authorized items and individuals gain access. This includes the documentation and secure storage of seized contraband.
• Law Enforcement & Response: Enforce federal, state, and local laws, conducting required investigations and making arrests pursuant to the protection of the public and their property. This also involves the proper placement of items into evidence.
• Court Support & Detainee Services: Perform various court bailiff duties and responsibilities, provide security for Allen County Preservation Trust events, and safely transport court detainees.
• Administrative & Equipment Monitoring: Complete all required ACPD paperwork accurately, utilize the respective security camera systems for monitoring, conduct Clerk’s Office money escorts at least twice daily, and maintain a precise building key inventory.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a High School Diploma or GED. Demonstrate knowledge of court building security and general law enforcement principles. Must be 21 years of age or older to fulfill the requirement of being trained and sworn as a “Special Deputy” for the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
• Experience: Prior experience in law enforcement, court security, military service, or any other government building security is preferred, contributing to an early career foundation in this role.
• Skills: Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate the ability to act quickly and effectively in various situations; be proficient in using a handgun, handcuffs, electronic detection devices, and other job-related equipment. Must be able to qualify with a department-issued handgun and re-qualify annually, pass a law enforcement basic course, and become CPR and AED certified. A valid Driver’s license is required for the transportation of detainees.
