Respiratory Therapy Intern | Ascension

• Mission: Provide supervised respiratory therapy care and education to patients, ensuring accurate monitoring and communication within the healthcare team to support recovery.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Clinical Care: Provide supervised evaluation and care for patients experiencing respiratory insufficiencies, operating within the defined scope of a student’s practice.
• Treatment Administration: Administer prescribed medications and various treatments, adjusting care as needed based on observed clinical outcomes and the patient’s response.
• Monitoring & Communication: Continuously monitor and accurately document changes in a patient’s condition, communicating these updates effectively to the broader care team.
• Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about disease management strategies, prescribed medications, and treatment protocols to facilitate their recovery process.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level internship requiring a high school diploma or equivalency, along with current enrollment in an accredited program specific to the discipline.
• Experience: No prior years of experience are required for this internship. Candidates must obtain BLS Provider certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted) within one month of their hire date.
• Skills: Clinical patient evaluation, administration of prescribed medications and treatments, monitoring patient conditions, accurate documentation, clear communication with care teams, and patient/family education on disease management.
• Bonus: Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program is preferred.
