Nurse Intern-Hospital Nursing Float Pool PRN | The MetroHealth System (Cleveland, OH)

The Tone:
This is an internship at The MetroHealth System, located in Cleveland, OH, specifically at the MetroHealth Main Campus- The Glick Center. This Nurse Intern role is a pivotal opportunity for aspiring nurses to actively contribute to patient care while developing essential skills within a leading healthcare institution.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time, PRN (16.00 bi-weekly hours, variable days and shifts)
• Location: In-person, Cleveland, OH

• Team: Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Nursing Assistants (PCNAs), Providers, Social Workers/Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, PT/OT, Speech Therapy, Art & Music Therapy, and Dieticians across various hospital units.
• Mission: To provide direct patient care support and assist in diverse nursing activities across multiple inpatient settings, fostering practical experience and contributing to high-quality patient outcomes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide versatile patient care: Gain extensive hands-on experience by rotating through diverse inpatient specialties, including Oncology, Adult Telemetry, Trauma Step Down, Inpatient Post Surgical, Ortho/Medical, General Medicine, Inpatient Neuro/Stroke, and Critical Care Step Down units.
• Assist with daily patient needs: Implement adaptive Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) support and employ patient safety/reorientation methods to ensure patient comfort and a secure healing environment.
• Perform fundamental nursing skills: Execute essential procedures such as taking vital signs, assisting with IVs, inserting and removing Foley catheters, and providing meticulous wound care under appropriate supervision.
• Collaborate across disciplines: Engage actively with a broad team of healthcare professionals to deliver holistic and coordinated care plans that address the multifaceted needs of patients.
• Develop clinical confidence: Utilize this opportunity to hone critical nursing skills and build self-assurance in a dynamic clinical setting, preparing for future professional nursing practice.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing (or a program seeking accreditation) with continuous enrollment.
• Experience: Must have completed fundamentals of nursing and be currently registered in clinical rotations; eligibility to continue in the position is a maximum of six months upon graduating from nursing school.
• Skills: Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification (or obtain within 90 days of hire), practical ability to perform vital signs, assist with IVs, Foley Catheter insertion/removal, and wound care, along with knowledge of patient safety and reorientation methods.
