Veterinary Extern – General Practice | NVA General Practice
The Tone:
This is an externship at NVA General Practice, located in North Richland Hills, TX. NVA General Practice is a network of veterinary hospitals committed to providing excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. This role offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on clinical experience within a supportive environment. The externship is designed to help students understand day-to-day practice operations and refine essential veterinary skills.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Assessment: Gather comprehensive patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations to inform diagnosis and care.
• Treatment Planning: Collaborate with supervising veterinarians to create effective treatment plans for a diverse range of patients.
• Diagnostic & Dentistry Services: Engage in various diagnostic procedures and assist with or observe dentistry services.
• Surgical Involvement: Observe, assist with, or perform surgical procedures under direct supervision.
• Medical Management: Contribute to the medical management of patients, overseeing their care and recovery.
• Communication Practice: Develop and refine communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.
• Experience: No prior professional experience required beyond current veterinary student enrollment.
• Skills: Patient history gathering, physical examination techniques, treatment plan creation, diagnostic procedure understanding, surgical assisting aptitude, medical case management.
• Bonus: Eligibility for a travel/living expense stipend is available for students in the clinical portion of their education.
