The Tone:
This is a full-time, in-person operations role at Central Transport, a leading Less-than-Truckload (LTL) carrier. Central Transport has a nearly 90-year history of servicing manufacturing and retail companies nationwide, boasting over 200 locations and a commitment to technological advancement and continuous expansion, including 25 new next-day hubs and a modern fleet averaging 2.5 years old. This Operations Supervisor position is crucial for managing the day-to-day outbound terminal operations, directly impacting the efficiency of freight movement and the quality of service provided to a wide network of clientele. It ensures the smooth execution of critical logistics processes that underpin Central Transport’s reputation for reliability and service excellence.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Monday – Friday: 4:30pm – 2:30am OR Tuesday – Saturday: 2:00am – 12:00pm (50 hours/week average)
• Location: In-person
• Pay: $60000–$75000 yearly + up to 10% bonus
• Team: Manages a team of up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel.
• Mission: Ensure efficient outbound operations and production schedule adherence in an LTL terminal.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations Oversight: Direct and oversee the entirety of outbound operations within a specific terminal dock section, managing processes such as freight loading, forklift traffic flow, and the precise picking and sortation of palletized freight.
• Personnel Management: Lead and manage a team of up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel, guiding their efforts to successfully achieve designated production schedules and operational goals.
• Load Optimization: Exercise independent judgment to strategically build loads, effectively balancing available labor resources with current freight levels to maximize efficiency and capacity utilization.
• Quality Control: Ensure the proper and compliant loading of carriers by diligently monitoring both the cube (volume) and weight distribution within trailers.
• Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor dock production performance, working to ensure that facility Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals are consistently met and often exceeded.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires prior management experience, specifically within transportation operations, paired with a comprehensive understanding of the Less-than-Truckload (LTL) trucking industry.
• Experience: Mandatory prior hands-on experience in management roles, dispatch functions, and dock operations, with a strong preference for candidates whose background is rooted in the LTL trucking industry. The role requires the ability to work approximately 50 hours per week, including nights and/or weekends, and in all weather conditions, under tight time constraints and high pressure.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities are essential, encompassing the ability to effectively hire, coach, counsel, train, and mentor employees. Candidates must possess excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills, a high aptitude for technology, and the capacity to multi-task while maintaining a detail-oriented approach in a demanding environment.
• Bonus: An associate or bachelor’s Degree is preferred, though not strictly required.
