Waste Zero Intern | Recology
The Tone:
This is an internship at Recology, located in Seattle, WA. Recology is the largest employee-owned resource recovery company, dedicated to protecting the environment and sustaining communities through the 4R’s: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, and Recologize. This role is crucial for coordinating waste diversion programs and community education, directly helping customers and the public understand and participate in resource recovery services.

• Team: Under direct supervision of the Waste Zero Manager, supporting the Waste Zero Team
• Mission: Assists with the coordination and administration of waste diversion programs and community-wide services to educate customers and the public on resource recovery.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office suite of applications
What You’ll Actually Do
• Audit: Assists with conducting simple waste audits for customers and developing diversion strategies to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate: Coordinates various programs and community events under the direction of the Waste Zero Team, ensuring all materials and collateral are prepared.
• Represent: Oversees the staff outreach booth and represents Recology at community events to actively promote recycling, composting, and waste reduction.
• Design: Contributes to the creation and implementation of digital design products and social media content.
• Educate: Delivers public education programs as needed to fulfill contract requirements and/or sustainability goals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High school diploma or GED required, with related coursework and/or training.
• Experience: 1 year of related administrative and events coordination experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in computer programs including the Microsoft Office suite, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and a valid driver’s license.
• Bonus: Student or Alumni of the University of Washington (recent graduate strongly preferred).
