Senior Energy Markets Program Manager, Strategic Projects | Microsoft
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Microsoft, focusing on the critical energy infrastructure that powers the company’s global cloud operations and data centers. As part of the CO+I Energy Team, you will drive strategic energy projects, ensuring reliable, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Your work will directly support the rapid expansion of Microsoft Azure and the global AI economy by securing essential power resources.
The TL;DR

• Location: Americas (US, Canada, LATAM) with a focus on Texas/ERCOT energy markets
• Pay: $119800–$234700 yearly
• Team: CO+I Energy Team
• Mission: Manage a portfolio of activities to identify and execute energy opportunities that advance Microsoft’s datacenter growth, leveraging sustainability, time to market, and economic value.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage and lead datacenter interconnection, behind-the-meter arrangements, and energy supply contract development with utilities and third-party suppliers in Texas and ERCOT.
• Lead the analysis of energy industry trends, market policy, and regulations to identify opportunities for cost reduction, risk minimization, and sustainability advancement.
• Manage strategy development and execution of regulatory engagements for behind-the-meter power infrastructure needs with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders.
• Build and lead relationships with external suppliers, electric utilities, local and regional regulatory agencies, customers, and energy technology providers.
• Manage and develop internal business cases, including providing input on financial models and market research to support cost-effective power agreements.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 4+ years in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
• Skills: Expertise in energy market analysis, power interconnection, and energy supply contract negotiation, particularly in ERCOT. Ability to build and lead relationships with utilities, strategic energy partners, and regulators. Financial analytics for business cases.
• Bonus: Master’s degree (preferred). 5+ years of experience in the digital infrastructure industry, including hyperscale data centers, site selection, energy procurement, and sustainability initiatives. Proven ability to communicate effectively, navigate ambiguity, and deliver results. Demonstrated experience in delivering commercial solutions and understanding key value drivers in clean energy, power industry finance, and power purchasing contracts for clean energy and/or conventional power systems, including behind-the-meter generation. Experience managing commercial and regulatory matters related to ERCOT and PUCT.
