Paralegal, Consumer Protection | Virginia Office of the Attorney General
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, located in the Office of the Attorney General. The agency serves as the state’s legal department, providing counsel and representation. This role is crucial for supporting attorneys within the Consumer Protection Section, ensuring effective investigation and litigation to protect Virginia consumers from deceptive practices.

• Location: In-person, Richmond, VA
• Pay: $55000–$66000 yearly
• Team: Consumer Protection Section’s Charitable Solicitations and Deceptive Conduct Unit, supporting attorneys.
• Mission: Provide essential litigation and investigative support to attorneys to uphold consumer protection laws.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, cite-checking, legal search engines, case management systems, document management systems
What You’ll Actually Do
• Attorney Support: Provide comprehensive litigation and investigative support to attorneys within the Consumer Protection Section.
• Evidence Management: Manage documents and other evidence, including Bates-stamping, indexing, reviewing, coding, scanning, copying, and filing.
• Witness Engagement: Conduct telephone interviews of consumers and other witnesses, then draft memoranda documenting interviews and affidavits.
• Trial Preparation: Assist in preparing for hearings and trials, including exhibits, witness subpoenas, and witness and trial notebooks.
• Case File Administration: Manage investigation and litigation files, including entry into the case management system, calculation of deadlines, and maintenance of pleadings indexes.
• Restitution Distribution: Handle the distribution of restitution to consumers, encompassing mailing, locating missing individuals, and reviewing compliance reports.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or a paralegal certificate, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, case management systems, and document management systems.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information. Proven capability to work efficiently in a legal environment and adjust priorities independently.
• Skills: Well-developed written and oral communication; proficiency in time management; ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to interact effectively with a diverse workforce and the general public; solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, cite-checking, and legal search engines.
• Bonus: 5 to 10 years of litigation paralegal experience.
