Paralegal | City of Virginia Beach
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the City of Virginia Beach, located in Virginia Beach, VA. The Virginia Beach City Attorney’s Office provides comprehensive legal counsel and representation to the municipal government, its various departments, and officials. This role is crucial for supporting the office’s experienced civil litigation efforts, ensuring all legal processes, documentation, and deadlines in federal and state courts are efficiently managed to uphold the city’s legal interests.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Drafting Documents: Draft pleadings, orders, subpoenas, and discovery documents with precision and adherence to legal standards.
• Trial Preparation: Prepare comprehensive trial notebooks, ensuring all necessary materials are organized and readily accessible for attorneys.
• Information Summarization: Summarize depositions, evidence, and medical records to extract key information for case strategy and review.
• Case Management: Obtain, review, and organize records and evidence, while actively calendaring and monitoring important deadlines to maintain case progress.
• Attorney and Administrative Support: Assist attorneys at trial and manage various administrative duties, including scheduling appointments, drafting letters, and opening and organizing case files.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level experienced civil litigation paralegal.
• Experience: At least 7 years of paralegal experience in federal and state courts, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in civil litigation.
• Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; have demonstrated experience navigating the federal and Virginia court systems; exhibit superior computer skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, Sharepoint, Westlaw, One Drive, GovQA, and PACER.
• Bonus: Proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, exercise independent judgment and initiative in problem-solving, function as a constructive member of a litigation team, and fastidiously maintain client confidentiality.
