The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Heuser & Heuser, L.L.P., located in Colorado Springs, CO. Heuser & Heuser, L.L.P. is a veteran-owned personal injury law firm that has represented injured workers and accident victims across Southern Colorado since 1996, handling personal injury, workers’ compensation, and wrongful death cases. This role is vital for their legal team, requiring a diligent, organized, and experienced Personal Injury Paralegal to support attorneys in preparing legal documents, managing cases, and facilitating settlement processes.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time

• Pay: $35–$48 hourly

• Mission: This role supports personal injury attorneys by managing cases, drafting legal documents, and coordinating with clients and external parties to ensure efficient case progression and resolution.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case and administrative management: Maintain and organize comprehensive case filing systems, administrative activities, and client files to ensure attorneys always have complete, accurate, and readily accessible information for active cases.
• Legal document drafting and research: Assist attorneys in preparing various legal pleadings, paperwork, and correspondence, including interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notifications, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, affidavits, and comprehensive settlement demand packages.
• Pre-litigation caseload and deadline compliance: Proactively manage an active pre-litigation caseload by tracking all deadlines, statutes of limitations, and procedural requirements, calendaring critical dates, and flagging potential delays, gaps, or risks to the supervising attorney.
• Client communication and service: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the pre-litigation phase, providing regular, clear updates, answering questions, and documenting all communications promptly and accurately within Filevine.
• Financial and medical billing administration: Administer medical billing by reviewing health insurance and MedPay ledgers, directing billing to appropriate sources, submitting and tracking subrogation and provider reduction requests, tracking firm costs and client expenses, and drafting detailed disbursement sheets for settlement.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program or an Associate’s degree in paralegal studies. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer, preferably within a personal injury law firm.
• Skills:
• High-level organizational abilities and effective time-management skills to handle an active caseload and multiple administrative responsibilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, and external parties, as well as for drafting legal documents.
• Proficiency in ordering, reviewing, and accurately summarizing complex medical records to prepare factual responses for discovery requests.
• Demonstrated experience in supporting family settlement conferences and mediation processes to facilitate resolutions and avoid further litigation.
• Ability to coordinate professionally with insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, medical providers, and lienholders during all phases of case management and settlement.
• Bonus: NALA (National Association of Legal Assistants) certification program completion is strongly preferred.
