What You’ll Actually Do
• Organize and process incoming criminal cases for Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys, establishing physical working files.
• Maintain accuracy and consistency across electronic and physical case files following established legal procedures.
• Prepare, format, proofread, and finalize critical legal documents for attorney review and electronic filing with courts.
• Coordinate with court personnel regarding hearings and trial schedules, while managing and updating attorney calendars.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must have graduated from high school or possess equivalent responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the job’s essential functions. This role requires foundational legal exposure, including familiarity with legal terminology, documents, court processes, and general legal office practices.
• Experience: A minimum of one year and six months of general clerical experience is required. Of this, at least six months must have involved clerical and typing work performed within a law office environment. Relevant education and training from an accredited college or university in programs such as legal office administration, legal assistance, legal secretary, paralegal, or law may substitute for the required law office experience, with credit dependent on the specific program completed.
• Skills:
• Demonstrate typing proficiency at a minimum of 40 net words per minute.
• Possess strong command of grammar, spelling, and written communication skills for preparing legal documents.
• Familiarity with legal terminology, forms, procedures, and an understanding of basic court actions and related legal processes.
• Experience with legal electronic filing (e-filing) systems and established legal office practices.
• Ability to accurately maintain and organize legal records, both physical and electronic, and work with word processing and computer systems effectively.
• Proven capacity to work efficiently under constant time constraints and strict deadlines, maintaining a high level of dependability, reliability, and attention to detail while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information and consistent work output.
