The Tone:
This is a full-time role at a leader in the Hospitality & Recreation space, located in San Mateo, CA. The company is a prominent entity recognized for its position in the Hospitality & Recreation sector. This Director, Legal position is pivotal, as it will lead critical legal work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery across the Americas. The successful candidate will partner closely with business, technical, and operational stakeholders to build comprehensive reporting, surface important trends, and meticulously translate complex analysis into actionable strategies. This role offers a significant opportunity to strengthen data-driven execution throughout the organization and help teams focus intently on the metrics that hold the most importance within a dynamic hospitality and recreation environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Team Leadership: Lead a specialized team of privacy legal experts, overseeing their operations and strategic contributions across the Americas region.
• Global Program Integration: Collaborate extensively with the SIE Global Privacy Team to ensure the effective scaling and consistent application of the broader privacy program.
• Regulatory Adaptation: Manage the comprehensive organizational responses required to adhere to newly enacted data protection laws and evolving regulations.
• Privacy Framework Development: Design and implement robust privacy standards and clear processes that enhance data protection practices throughout the company.
• Strategic Privacy Guidance: Advise business leaders on how to judiciously balance essential consumer privacy protections with the strategic utilization of data for achieving key business objectives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires a Director-level legal professional with a minimum of 10 years of extensive experience specifically in US and global privacy and data protection compliance.
• Experience: Proven experience in the successful development and implementation of comprehensive data privacy policies, coupled with a keen knowledge of social privacy issues and the implications of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Skills: Demonstrated strong communication skills are essential for effectively translating complex legal concepts and requirements to diverse non-legal stakeholders within the organization.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include current CA bar membership, ideally with Registered In-House Counsel qualification, and recognized privacy certifications such as CIPP/US and CIPP/E.
