Court Services Officer 1/Court Services Officer Trainee | New Jersey Courts
The Tone:
This is a full-time role for a Court Services Officer 1 or Court Services Officer Trainee at the New Jersey Judiciary, based in the Hunterdon Civil Division within the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage, offering a hybrid work schedule. You will join an 8500-member strong team dedicated to operating with the highest standards of independence, integrity, fairness, and quality service. Your work will have purpose and meaning, directly contributing to building public trust and confidence in the court system, and improving the lives of countless individuals and families. This includes engagement with critical issues such as bail reform, marijuana decriminalization, and recovery court.

• Mission: Manage case flow and monitor outcomes in Civil dockets from initial filing through final disposition.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Calendar Management: Schedule, facilitate, and meticulously maintain civil case calendars, including trials, conferences, oral arguments, post-judgment hearings, and return orders to show cause, ensuring an appropriate balance across assigned judges.
• Remote Event Moderation: Actively moderate remote court events utilizing multiple technology platforms, while also coordinating attorney availability for all scheduled proceedings before the Assignment Judge.
• Data Review and Reporting: Systematically review and interpret statistical case data, then prepare and analyze detailed statistical reports to address critical areas such as overdue scheduling, undecided motions, case backlog, clearance rates, and unprocessed fees.
• Compliance and Monitoring: Diligently monitor discovery deadlines, case progress, legal pleadings, and established case management orders to ensure full compliance with all court rules, relevant statutes, and internal practices.
• Interdepartmental Communication: Engage in regular and clear verbal and written communication with judges, chambers staff, other Judiciary personnel, legal attorneys, and self-represented parties, also assisting in cross-training coworkers on new procedures and information systems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience: For the Court Services Officer 1 position, one year of paraprofessional case management experience is required, involving gathering, reviewing, and verifying case-related information. This experience must have included conducting investigations, monitoring casework flow, interviewing clients or customers for needed information, preparing investigative fact-finding reports, and/or writing case notes or other case-related correspondence.
• Skills: Strong communication (verbal and written), technical proficiency, organizational ability, leadership qualities, and the capacity to work effectively in a team environment.
