Paralegal Specialist | Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

This is a full-time, permanent role at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, located in Washington, D.C. The FBI serves as the principal investigative arm of the Department of Justice, working to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States. This Paralegal Specialist position is crucial within the Office of the General Counsel, specifically supporting the Legal Forfeiture Unit. The role directly contributes to the FBI’s mission by providing legal oversight and support for asset forfeiture, ensuring the program effectively removes profit from crime and recovers assets for victims.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Conduct Legal Reviews: Conduct case file legal reviews, inquiries, analysis, and research at the direction of attorneys to identify legal issues and potential risks in forfeiture proceedings, supporting legal strategy and decision making.
• Gather Information: Assist in gathering, collecting, reviewing, and analyzing factual information to satisfy legal and policy requirements for forfeiture.
• Draft Legal Documents: Draft clear and accurate legal documents, memoranda, and correspondence for attorney review while adhering to unit priorities, deadlines, and established legal procedures.
• Manage Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative and organizational tasks to support forfeiture legal proceedings, including data entry, document preparation, mailing, tracking legal correspondence, and maintaining filing and document retention systems.
• Coordinate Information: Coordinate and communicate information in a timely and professional manner between the Legal Forfeiture Unit and other internal and external entities as directed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Experienced professional at the GS-13 Full Performance Level. Paralegal experience in asset forfeiture or criminal law, or paralegal experience in a position requiring strong organization and writing skills. Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, demonstrating skill in establishing effective relationships, mastery knowledge of court procedures, legal precedents, principles, concepts, and terminology, thorough knowledge of Federal ethical standards, and knowledge of document control and security measures.
• Skills: Governance and Legal Jurisprudence (FBI Asset Forfeiture), Analytic Thinking, Communication, Organizing and Planning, and Information Management. Legal skills and proficiency to analyze technical data, investigate subject-matter details, weigh evidence, and perform extensive legal research using computerized systems.
• Bonus: Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
