The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site Legal Assistant role at Neale & Newman, L.L.P., located in Springfield, MO. Neale & Newman is a long-established law firm that builds legal solutions and trusted relationships for individuals and businesses across Southwest Missouri and beyond, combining substantial legal experience with a client-focused approach. This role is essential for ensuring attorneys can efficiently manage a wide range of cases, from complex litigation to local issues, by providing critical administrative and document support. The Legal Assistant plays a key part in upholding the firm’s century-long reputation for high professional standards and courteous client service.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Document Management: Prepare and organize a variety of legal documents, diligently manage physical and digital case files, and maintain accurate, accessible records for ongoing and historical matters.
• Scheduling and Coordination: Skillfully schedule appointments, manage court dates, and coordinate all necessary correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, and other external parties.
• Document Filing and Retrieval: Provide critical support in both the physical and electronic filing of legal documents, alongside efficient retrieval, ensuring materials are readily available for attorneys and staff.
• Communication and Quality Assurance: Draft routine communications to various stakeholders and meticulously proofread all legal materials for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with firm procedures.
• Case Management Support: Collaborate closely with attorneys and staff to support efficient case management, contributing to high-quality client service and adherence to professional standards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must possess a foundational knowledge of law and a clear understanding of legal processes relevant to a practicing law firm.
• Experience: Prior experience or training is required, specifically in a legal assistant role or a comparable legal support position, demonstrating familiarity with legal office operations.
• Skills: Strong communication skills, encompassing clear written and verbal interaction with clients, attorneys, and courts; proven ability in legal document preparation and basic drafting of pleadings, contracts, and correspondence; and robust administrative assistance skills, including scheduling, file management, data entry, and comprehensive document organization.
• Bonus: Strong attention to detail and proven discretion in handling confidential information; proficiency with standard office software as well as specialized legal software; and the demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines. An associate’s degree, paralegal or legal assistant certification, or relevant coursework in legal studies is preferred.
