Paralegal | The Halpern Law Firm, LLC

The Tone:
This is a hybrid remote role, requiring residence in the Pittsburgh region, for The Halpern Law Firm, LLC. Based in Bryn Mawr, PA, the firm boasts over 30 years of dedicated legal advocacy. Led by David Halpern, the firm specializes in representing mesothelioma victims in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, actively fighting for the rights of those affected by asbestos exposure. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will serve as an important and integral team member, directly contributing to the effective management and progression of client cases. This hands-on position is critical to the firm’s mission, requiring diligent follow-up and completion of assignments to seek justice for victims.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Filing: Prepare, file, and electronically serve various legal documents with federal courts, ensuring compliance with all procedural requirements for active litigation.
• Scheduling & Coordination: Proactively communicate with clients and key witnesses to efficiently schedule essential meetings, interviews, and depositions, facilitating the investigative and discovery phases of cases.
• Administrative Support: Precisely maintain attorneys’ calendars, keeping track of deadlines and appointments, and manage all outgoing correspondence to clients, defense counsel, and other relevant parties.
• Record Procurement: Systematically request and secure vital records of clients in a timely manner, which includes medical records, employment history, and other critical documentation pertinent to their cases.
• Case Monitoring & Organization: Diligently follow up with other staff members and attorneys on the current status of cases, and rigorously maintain the comprehensive organization of multiple active legal cases to ensure seamless workflow.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of related professional experience in a legal support role, with a strong preference for prior experience gained specifically within a law firm environment. This background is essential for understanding the nuances of litigation support.
• Experience: Demonstrable expertise in performing paralegal duties, including the ability to manage complex tasks and contribute effectively to case progression within a legal framework.
• Skills: Possess strong oral and written communication skills necessary for clear and empathetic interaction with clients and professional correspondence with defense counsel. Must be comfortable speaking with a diverse group of people and able to work effectively with all levels of staff within the firm. The ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet critical deadlines is paramount.
• Bonus: Prior knowledge of asbestos litigation will be considered a significant advantage, providing an immediate understanding of the firm’s specialized area. A paralegal certification or an academic degree in a related field is also a plus.
