Litigation Legal Practice Assistant | Burr & Forman

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the legal team by managing a variety of complex administrative responsibilities essential for efficient legal operations and client support.

• Mission: This person will primarily own the accurate and timely execution of complex administrative tasks, ensuring efficient legal processes and support for the litigation team.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare Legal Documents: Prepare, edit, and proof briefs, motions, discovery, pleadings, memos, correspondence, and other similar documents and reports.
• Manage Court Filings: File briefs, pleadings, and other filings in district, state, and federal court, ensuring adherence to procedures.
• Coordinate Logistics: Schedule and coordinate logistics for meetings, travel arrangements, and depositions.
• Maintain Schedules: Maintain calendars, including tracking court deadlines and appearances for the legal team.
• Handle Billing and Expenses: Enter billable time, edit time and pre-bills as needed, and process expense reimbursements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; strong knowledge of legal terminology, processes, and court procedures for district, state, and federal courts, including electronic filing.
• Experience: At least two years of experience as a litigation legal secretary or assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and a typing speed of 50 WPM.
• Skills: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with a desire to take ownership; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to balance competing priorities and work effectively under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
• Bonus: Service-minded professional demonstrating intellectual curiosity and an excellent work ethic.
