IP Litigation Legal Assistant | Sheppard
The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, located in Silicon Valley, CA. The firm is a global Am Law 100 organization. This position is crucial for providing comprehensive litigation support to attorneys across all aspects of patent litigation and PTAB filings, ensuring adherence to procedures, deadlines, and proper documentation in federal courts and PTAB. The role requires extensive knowledge of litigation, trial procedures, and court rules to manage multiple projects effectively.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Management: Format, edit, and manage legal documents, including pleadings and discovery.
• Scheduling & Logistics: Schedule and coordinate depositions, court dates, filing deadlines, calendars, appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements.
• Case Initiation: Conduct conflict checks and handle new matters, including preparing engagement letters and managing client and case documents.
• Correspondence & Filing: Prepare and file official correspondence using firm standards and procedures, working closely with attorneys and paralegals.
• Workflow Management: Proactively manage casework and assignments, ensuring all deadlines are met and communicating calendar and docket updates to the Docket & Calendar Team.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A minimum of 5-7 years of litigation experience in a law firm is required. Candidates must possess extensive knowledge of litigation, trial procedures, and federal, state, and appellate court rules. A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of litigation experience, including document productions, e-discovery, and e-filings.
• Skills: Strong working knowledge of Superior and Federal Courts rules and procedures, excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills, strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and excellent time management skills.
• Bonus: A bachelor’s degree or some college is preferred. Ability to quickly learn new skills and systems is also a plus.
