Trademark Paralegal | Colgate-Palmolive

The Tone:

This role is pivotal, overseeing the complete lifecycle of trademark assets from initial clearance and filing through to ongoing maintenance and global enforcement. The paralegal will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company’s extensive trademark and copyright portfolios while driving the optimization and implementation of Trademark Team processes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Portfolio Management: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of global trademark and copyright assets, encompassing filings, prosecution, and renewals. This includes partnering with business teams to gather use-based evidence and collaborating with the patent team on complementary filings.
• Data Integrity: Maintain a comprehensive and proactive docketing system to accurately track all critical deadlines and status updates. This involves performing regular record audits, managing adversarial filings, and generating essential reports for stakeholders.
• Trademark Clearance: Lead the trademark clearance process from preliminary screenings through to coordinating formal requests. This involves collaboration between internal marketing teams, legal counsel, and external providers to ensure thorough review.
• Enforcement & Transactions: Assist with various dispute resolutions, including oppositions and UDRP proceedings. Responsibilities extend to managing eCommerce brand registries, executing the removal of online infringements across social media and web platforms, and supporting transactional due diligence and reporting.
• Operations: Develop and continuously refine departmental processes and playbooks. The goal is to drive overall efficiency and establish operational consistency across all trademark team activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree with core domain knowledge in trademark prosecution paralegal work.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of trademark prosecution paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate setting, coupled with knowledge of USPTO practice and international filing systems (Madrid Protocol, WIPO).
• Skills: Proficiency in Saegis, USPTO eTEAS system, CPI (or other trademark management systems), Google Suite, Gemini, and Notebook LM.
• Bonus: Experience creating AI Assistants in Gemini.
