Litigation Docket & Court Services Specialist | Barnes & Thornburg LLP
The Tone
This is a role within Barnes & Thornburg LLP, a large legal organization with twenty-two offices. The firm relies on expert administrative support to manage complex legal procedures and mitigate risk. This position is critical for ensuring accurate case docketing, compliant court filings, and providing essential procedural guidance to legal teams, thereby supporting the firm’s litigation practice across various jurisdictions.

• Mission: Ensures all litigation deadlines are met, court filings are compliant, and legal teams receive accurate procedural guidance to manage cases effectively and mitigate risk

What You’ll Actually Do
• Docketing Expertise: Provide expert guidance on docket functionality and process for all court filing deadlines, discovery, and other relevant event dates and reminders using rules-based software.
• Deadline Management: Review litigation documents for key dates and effectively alert attorneys and paralegals of upcoming deadlines through the docketing system.
• Legal Research: Conduct high-level research, retrieving pertinent information on litigants, court cases, dockets, and judge information from all court-related databases and online services.
• Procedural Guidance: Respond to procedural requests and inquiries from attorneys and staff regarding calendared events, deadlines, pleadings, court procedures, applicable court rules, and date calculations.
• Quality Control: Create, prepare, and distribute docket reports with upcoming deadlines, applying quality control methodologies to all docketing and court data to ensure consistency across all offices.
• Electronic Filing: Perform compliant electronic court filings for the firm under the direction of the Managing Clerk’s Office, applying well-rounded national experience with State and Federal Court Rules and procedures.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Experienced Professional with core domain knowledge in litigation, court rules, procedures, and electronic court filing practices.
• Experience: 5+ years of recent litigation experience, with preference given to candidates with litigation docketing experience using a rules-based docketing software. Experience supporting litigation in multiple states, including both Federal districts and State jurisdictions.
• Skills: Expert knowledge of court rules, procedures, and electronic court filing practices; high-level understanding of litigation phases; expert knowledge of legal documents and terminology; computer proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, Imanage, and Adobe; detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize time efficiently while handling multiple tasks.
• Bonus: Experience with CompuLaw. Knowledge of State, Federal, and Pro Hac Vice bar admissions processes.
