Legal Administrative Specialist | United States Attorneys’​ Offices

The Tone:
This is a federal government role at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York. The office’s mission is to investigate, prosecute, and deter federal violations, enforce U.S. interests in civil litigation, uphold rights, and foster partnerships. This specialist position provides crucial technical, analytical, and legal support services to the Civil Division, contributing directly to the office’s core mission and upholding the rule of law.

• Mission: To provide crucial legal administrative and technical support for complex civil cases involving extensive electronic and hard copy materials.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of a variety of specialized legal topics and points of law to support case development.
• Document Preparation: Draft and prepare a range of letters, legal documents, official forms, and reports as specifically requested by attorneys or staff.
• Documentation Management: Manage and maintain discovery and other pertinent documentation, ensuring organization in both electronic and hard copy formats relevant to ongoing cases.
• E-Discovery Support: Provide advanced support for complex civil cases by processing, organizing, reviewing, producing, and presenting large volumes of electronic discovery materials.
• Strategic Advising: Advise attorneys, legal support staff, and client agencies on effective electronic discovery strategies, appropriate litigation support tools, technical requirements, production specifications, and best practices for managing complex electronic evidence.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Career level at GS-12, which requires previous experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service. There is no specific education qualification required for this position.
• Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, obtained in either the public or private sector, performing at least three of the following four duties:
* Providing expert level analysis and advice regarding technological tools or solutions for litigation support of federal cases.
* Analyzing litigation support project requirements to define or understand project objectives, sequence of events, work effort, durations of tasks, and/or associated resource requirements.
* Processing electronically stored information in various electronic file formats to prepare it for case team review, for production in discovery, and/or for filing or presentation as exhibits in court.
* Maintaining document review databases of voluminous discovery and/or case materials for cases.
• Skills:
* Expertise in analyzing and advising on technological tools and solutions for federal litigation support.
* Proficiency in analyzing litigation support project requirements and defining objectives, timelines, and resource needs.
* Capability in processing electronically stored information (ESI) for various litigation purposes, including review, production, and presentation.
* Experience in maintaining and managing document review databases for large volumes of discovery and case materials.
