This role is crucial to the daily operations of a Managing Attorney’s Office, ensuring meticulous management of court documents, deadlines, and related administrative processes. The Litigation Docket Specialist plays a vital part in supporting litigation attorneys with precision and vision in their complex and high-stakes matters.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Court Filings & Service: Perform electronic court filings for state, federal district, and appellate courts, and travel to administrative agencies as necessary to process filings and retrieve decisions.
• Document Review & Compliance: Screen and review incoming and outgoing court documents, ensuring strict compliance with all applicable court rules and procedures.
• Deadline Tracking & Communication: Review court filings, accurately enter critical calendar deadlines into centralized docketing software, and communicate essential information to attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
• Attorney Litigation Support: Provide direct support to litigation attorneys, including conducting research, retrieving necessary documents, and facilitating service of process.
• Database & System Management: Maintain and update all related databases, regularly check dockets for updates, run reports, and search cases using specialized software and internet resources.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid-level career. A comprehensive understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures, along with familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in litigation docketing. Proven experience with federal, state, and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (e.g., NYSCEF, NexGen, PACER).
• Skills: Excellent organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Desired experience includes rules-based calendaring software (e.g., CourtAlert, CompuLaw, MA3000).
• Bonus: Experience working in a large law firm is highly desired. General knowledge of court rules and procedures in Washington D.C. state and federal courts and agencies, as well as New York state and federal courts, is preferred.
