Assistant Managing Attorney | Gibson Dunn

This role is crucial in developing best practices for electronic filing and docketing across the firm’s California offices, working closely with the Managing Attorney-CA.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Review: Review all court documents served and/or filed through the Managing Attorney’s Office-CA for accuracy as to form and procedural compliance.
• Legal Advising: Perform legal research to advise litigators on various procedural matters, and provide guidance to lawyers regarding motion practice, policy, and procedure in California State and Federal Courts.
• Case Filings: Assist with and handle electronic case filings via CM/ECF and CA state court systems, in addition to hard copy filings and document retrieval, while also assisting with issues relating to service of process.
• Information Retrieval: Search for and extract information from court-related databases, websites, and relevant docketing and calendaring applications.
• Deadline Management: Screen and review incoming court documents and office correspondence to calculate and calendar relevant deadlines using the firm’s docketing system, including computing future calendar dates based on methods of service and filing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the California state bar are required. Must be familiar with California federal and state court systems and corresponding rules.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are stated.
• Skills: Possess solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; exhibit extraordinary attention to detail and the ability to work independently under pressure; able to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel. Must be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and able to work under tight deadlines; capable of planning, organizing, and completing multiple related activities, and delivering high quality work product with the ability to follow up and follow through.
• Bonus: Experience supervising other members of a Managing Attorney/Clerk’s Office at a large law firm preferred; experience with CourtAlert (or similar calendaring software) preferred.
