What You’ll Actually Do
• Legal Document Drafting: Draft and prepare a comprehensive range of legal documents, including motions, pleadings, judgments, statements, debt and asset lists, child support worksheets, and responsive pleadings for both real estate and family law matters.
• Real Estate Transaction Management: Provide full support for real estate transactions, which encompasses preparing all closing documents, thoroughly reviewing title reports, actively coordinating closings with all parties involved, and efficiently managing post-closing matters.
• Client Relationship and Communication: Serve as a key liaison between clients and attorneys, conducting detailed client interviews to gather necessary information, and maintaining professional communication with clients, attorneys, lenders, title companies, and staff. This also includes answering inbound phone calls professionally.
• Litigation and Discovery Processes: Assist extensively with various litigation tasks, such as preparing detailed trial notebooks and providing essential support during trials as needed. This involves compiling and reviewing comprehensive discovery packages, including disclosure statements, interrogatories, and document production, and serving pleadings, discovery documents, and demands.
• Administrative and Case Coordination: Oversee critical administrative duties including maintaining detailed calendars using Outlook, planning and scheduling internal and external meetings, handling all court filings (e-filing in Family Court, state, and federal courts), tracking court dates, closing dates, and other deadlines. Additionally, review bank statements, financial records, and real estate-related documents, manage a heavy caseload while maintaining high organization, request conflict checks, open new client matters, submit electronic approvals, and maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: An experienced Paralegal to support a Partner whose practice spans Real Estate and Family/Matrimonial Law in a Brooklyn office, ideally with a foundation in real estate and an interest in expanding into family law.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of prior experience specifically in Matrimonial Law is required, with minimal training provided in this area.
• Skills: Proficiency in drafting legal documents, assisting with real estate transactions, managing client communications, preparing for trials, compiling discovery packages, handling court filings (including e-filing), managing heavy caseloads, and using MS Office applications (Excel), Westlaw, and ProLaw. Ability to communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
• Bonus: Preferred experience includes working with high net worth clients, and a demonstrated polished, professional demeanor.
