Legal Analyst | SAIC

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at SAIC, located in Arlington, VA. SAIC provides essential support to government and defense agencies, delivering advanced solutions and critical services. This role is vital in supporting the DoD Office of the General Counsel (OGC) by conducting preliminary legal analysis and preparing crucial documents, directly contributing to national defense operations and legal compliance worldwide. The work performed ensures that legal frameworks are sound and responsive to the complex demands of military operations and governmental oversight.

• Team: Contract team with the DoD Office of the General Counsel (OGC)
• Mission: Provide preliminary legal analysis and support to the DoD Office of the General Counsel across a spectrum of defense-related legal matters.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review Legal Orders: Provide preliminary review and preparation of orders authorizing U.S. force deployments, military operations, and rules of engagement.
• Analyze International Agreements: Conduct preliminary reviews, research, and technical support for all aspects of defense-related international agreements before final government attorney review.
• Support Civil Litigation and Inquiries: Provide preliminary review, analysis, and support for civil litigation cases, congressional inquiries and investigations, Privacy and Civil Liberties matters, and other OGC-tasked items.
• Process FOIA Requests: Provide preliminary review, analysis, and support for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, including conducting research, applying electronic redactions, and preparing detailed Vaughn indices.
• Manage Legal Documentation: Draft and prepare legal holds, track their distribution, prepare closure notices, and identify all privileged information to create detailed privilege logs for various legal proceedings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or five years of equivalent legal analyst experience is required.
• Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant experience analyzing legal documents is necessary, along with a TS/SCI clearance.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research, perform preliminary analysis of legal documents, apply electronic redactions using e-Discovery software, and prepare detailed Vaughn and privilege logs.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree is preferred, as is previous experience in a government, law office, corporate general counsel office, or JAG office, with DoD experience being highly desired.
