Paralegal I | City of Boise
The Tone:
This is a hybrid-eligible role at the City of Boise, located in Boise, ID. The City of Boise is a municipal organization dedicated to providing essential services and operations that foster a safe and thriving community. This Paralegal I position plays a critical role within the City Attorney’s Office, specifically supporting its Public Safety Division. The individual selected will provide vital litigation support, civil case management, and legal document preparation, directly contributing to the efficient and accurate handling of legal matters that impact city operations and public safety. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who values precision and actively helps attorneys advance legal matters.

• Mission: To efficiently support legal services for City operations and public safety by handling civil litigation files, drafting legal documents, and performing comprehensive research and case management.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Management: Prepare and maintain civil case files, including litigation matters, ensuring all documentation is organized and accessible.
• Document Preparation: Draft and review legal agreements, pleadings, and other legal documents for legal sufficiency, content accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
• Litigation Support: Manage subrogation cases, handle housing evictions, represent the city in small claims court, and assist attorneys in collection matters.
• Public Records & Property: Process public records requests and manage property and weapons dispositions using applicable statutes, rules, and case law.
• Administrative Support: Serve as the initial point of contact for inquiries, direct correspondence, and provide general administrative support to the City Attorney’s Office.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree in paralegal studies and at least four years of experience in civil law, legal case management, legal research and writing, or assisting attorneys, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This includes core knowledge of legal terminology, principles, precedents, procedures, research methods, and legal document preparation/review.
• Experience: Four years of experience directly supporting civil litigation, managing legal cases, conducting legal research, and writing legal documents, with an understanding of federal and state court pleadings, rules, practices, and processes.
• Skills:
• Legal Research & Interpretation: Ability to perform legal and factual research, understand and interpret Idaho statutes, codes, court rules, regulations, case law, and model legal documents.
• Document Quality Assurance: Proficiency in reviewing drafts for legal sufficiency, content accuracy, and correct grammar, punctuation, and formatting, with strong attention to detail.
• Project Coordination: Ability to coordinate complex projects, appropriately prioritize a heavy workload, and adhere to project schedules under tight deadlines.
• Communication: Strong ability to interact effectively and tactfully with others and communicate effectively in the English language.
• Bonus: A Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal assisting, or pre-law studies with six years of relevant experience. Additional experience researching and interpreting complex regulations, policies, ordinances, statutes, laws, and codes is also preferred.
