What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Management: Assist the attorney with comprehensive case management, including organizing physical and electronic files, meticulously maintaining calendars, and accurately tracking crucial deadlines.
• Document Drafting: Prepare and draft various legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and correspondence for attorney review and approval.
• Document Formatting & Filing: Format legal documents to comply with court rules and firm standards, and manage electronic filing systems for timely submission of materials.
• Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal and factual research to gather necessary case-related information, statutes, and precedents, and prepare concise summaries or reports.
• Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a professional point of contact, communicating effectively with clients, courts, and other involved parties, while also drafting essential correspondence.
• Procedural Support: Provide direct support to the attorney during hearings, meetings, and other legal proceedings, and ensure adherence to firm procedures and confidentiality protocols.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early-Level. A paralegal certificate or diploma, or a degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field is preferred, alongside a strong foundation in family and immigration law, with the ability to understand legal concepts and apply them to case work.
• Experience: Possess relevant prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant gained within a law firm or a similar legal setting.
• Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in legal document preparation (including drafting, formatting, and filing), excellent communication for client and court interactions, solid legal and factual research abilities, meticulous attention to detail in document review, and strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. This includes proficiency with legal case management software, Microsoft Office, and electronic filing systems, coupled with a commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality.
• Bonus: Fluency in Hindi, Punjabi, or Spanish is preferred.
