District Court Clerk I | Hawai`i State Judiciary
The Tone:
This is a role with the Hawai`i State Judiciary, located in Honolulu, Oahu. The Judiciary is a critical component of the state’s justice system, upholding justice and serving the public through its courts. This District Court Clerk I role is essential for maintaining accurate and complete official court records and ensuring the smooth operation of District Court proceedings within a court of limited jurisdiction.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Authors: Authors the official court record in a court of limited jurisdiction.
• Manages: Manages records for District Court traffic and criminal arraignment or civil small claims court proceedings.
• Prepares: Prepares documents as ordered by the court.
• Performs: Performs other duties as required to support the court’s operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High school graduation or equivalent is required. Excess work experience demonstrating the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skills, may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience: One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings. Fifteen (15) semester credits from an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may substitute for six (6) months of Specialized Experience, up to a maximum of one (1) year. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
• Skills: Ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute. Proficiency may be evaluated by the appointing authority.
• Bonus: Some positions require a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. For certain positions, applicants must be qualified to possess firearms or ammunition in accordance with state and federal laws, e.g., no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction.
