Circuit Court Clerk I (Lautenberg) | Hawai`i State Judiciary

This is a Circuit Court Clerk I (Lautenberg) role at Hawai`i State Judiciary, located in Kapolei, Oahu. The Judiciary operates the state court system, providing a framework for justice and legal resolution for all residents. This position is vital for accurately documenting court proceedings, ensuring the official record of every action is meticulously maintained. The work directly supports judicial functions and upholds the integrity of the legal system.

• Mission: Determines and authors the official record of every court action through minute recording, document custody, and exhibit processing.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Record Official Minutes: Determine and author the official record of every court action by meticulously recording minutes.
• Manage Court Documents: Maintain custody of all notices and documents presented in court proceedings.
• Process Court Exhibits: Receive and process all exhibits submitted during hearings and trials.
• Guide Courtroom Procedures: Direct courtroom procedures for hearings and trials, particularly in simple and/or uncontested cases.
• Support Expedited Orders: Facilitate courtroom procedures where judges utilize expedited orders.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skills may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience: One year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings. Demonstrated note-taking ability through training and/or experience is also required.
• Skills: Ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
• Bonus:
* Education from an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may substitute for specialized experience (15 semester credits for six months, up to one year maximum).
* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of Specialized Experience.
* Qualification for Firearms (Lautenberg): Must be qualified to possess firearm or ammunition in accordance with state and federal laws (e.g., no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction).
