Administrative Assistant, Paralegal | Universal Music Group

This role is crucial for an eager and exceptional Paralegal Administrative Assistant, providing essential paralegal support to litigation attorneys within the Business and Legal Affairs Department. The individual in this position will contribute significantly to protecting the company’s intellectual property, managing critical legal documentation, and ensuring the smooth operation of legal affairs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Content Protection: Support the comprehensive policing of content infringement, which includes the investigation of potential violations, diligent evidence collection, confirmation of UMG’s rights, and collaborative work with counsel to assert and pursue legal claims.
• Legal Research: Conduct thorough research on claims asserted by UMG business units and those asserted against them, ensuring a clear understanding of legal positions.
• Discovery & Compliance: Assist actively in preparing and coordinating responses to discovery requests, subpoenas, and managing liens and levies to ensure legal compliance.
• Reporting & Liaison: Facilitate the preparation of a comprehensive quarterly report detailing legal matters affecting the company, requiring liaising with other attorneys, departments, and external agencies to gather updated information.
• Document Management & Administration: Review and summarize complex contracts, prepare and revise various legal agreements, charts, memoranda, correspondence, and other essential documents, while also providing administrative support such as handling correspondence, expense reports, and travel arrangements.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university. Career level: Early-career.
• Experience: Advanced computer experience, including proficiency in Microsoft Word (tables and redlining) and Excel.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with extreme attention to detail; professional demeanor and sound judgment; self-starter who takes initiative and is resourceful, taking ownership of tasks and projects; ability to multi-task, prioritize, work well under pressure, and follow up on delegated assignments through completion.
• Bonus: Prior experience as a paralegal, with the preparation of claims, or contract analysis.
