Investment Associate – Private Debt & Equity | Northwestern Mutual

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Northwestern Mutual, located in Milwaukee, WI. Northwestern Mutual Capital (NMC) manages approximately $65B of AUM, investing in private credit and equity co-investments for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, a highly-rated financial institution with a 165+ year legacy. This role is crucial for engaging with private equity partners, developing a strong analytical framework, and contributing to strategic funding decisions within a high-volume, lean deal team. The position is for a targeted 2026 start date.

• Mission: To support strategic funding for leveraged transactions and capital investments by analyzing and evaluating private equity and private credit investments.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Investment Evaluation: Analyze and evaluate private equity and private credit investments across a wide range of industries.
• Thesis Development: Develop investment theses.
• Financial Analysis: Perform detailed financial analysis and modeling.
• Deal Presentation: Assist in the writing of investment memos and present opportunities during investment committee discussions.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior level executives, legal counsels, investment bankers, and private equity sponsors.
• Portfolio Monitoring: Actively monitor portfolio performance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Four-year undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or mathematics with a track record of academic excellence.
• Experience: Two-to-four years of relevant experience in investment banking, equity research, private equity, or corporate development.
• Skills: Broad knowledge of investments, understanding of economic forces affecting a wide range of industries, proficiency in accounting, strong computer modeling skills, intellectual curiosity, and strong interpersonal skills including written and oral communication and relationship building.
