Associate, Secondaries Investor | CarterPierce, INC.

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at CarterPierce, INC., located in San Francisco, on the Secondaries Team. CarterPierce, INC. is a dedicated investor in the private equity secondaries market. As an Associate, you will be instrumental in the firm’s investment lifecycle, directly impacting the evaluation and execution of new opportunities. Your contributions will be central to identifying value, assessing risk, and supporting key investment decisions within this specialized and evolving segment of private equity.

• Mission: To manage and support the investment process for private equity secondaries opportunities, from screening to underwriting.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Investment Process Management: You will be responsible for the initial stages of the investment process, meticulously managing and screening incoming opportunities. This involves systematically logging new prospects and evaluating them against investment criteria to identify viable candidates for further consideration.
• Investment Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive initial due diligence for potential investments. This includes thorough information collection, synthesis, and preliminary analysis to build a foundational understanding of the opportunity and inform subsequent investment steps.
• Underwriting and Valuation: Lead the underwriting efforts for both GP-led and traditional secondary LP fund pricing. A key aspect of this involves understanding, analyzing, and critically evaluating company valuation inputs to assess investment attractiveness and potential returns.
• Transaction and Manager Interaction: Actively engage with the nuances of both GP-led and LP-led transactions, gaining valuable exposure to diverse deal structures and market dynamics. This role provides ongoing access and interaction with a broad network of private equity managers.
• Analytical Application: Apply a rigorous approach to information management, data interpretation, and pattern recognition. This heavy emphasis ensures that all investment analyses are data-driven, thorough, and leverage insights derived from complex datasets.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An early career professional demonstrating a strong and genuine interest in private equity investing, specifically within the secondaries market.
• Experience: Prior experience in investment banking, management consulting, or private investing roles is preferred for candidates applying to this position.
• Skills:
• Highly analytical capabilities, including comfort and proficiency in managing large, complex datasets.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective internal and external interactions.
