Managing Director, Investment Banking | Mariner

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mariner. Mariner is a firm seeking a senior leader to drive its investment banking efforts for emerging middle-market companies, specifically those that are founder-led and privately held. This position is critical for originating new business opportunities, fostering trusted relationships within Mariner’s network, and guiding clients through significant financial transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, capital raises, and liquidity events. The role ensures clients receive thoughtful, holistic solutions during crucial growth, transition, and succession stages of their businesses.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Business Origination: Cultivate and originate middle-market investment banking opportunities by establishing relationships with business owners, private equity firms, strategic acquirers, and various referral sources to build a consistent transaction pipeline.
• Client Advisory: Provide strategic advisory services to founder-led businesses, guiding clients through critical liquidity events, ownership transitions, valuation strategies, transaction structures, and exit planning aligned with their long-term financial objectives.
• Transaction Leadership: Lead client engagements and direct end-to-end transaction execution, overseeing due diligence processes, developing financial marketing materials, coordinating buyer outreach, managing negotiations, and ensuring successful deal closings with superior client outcomes.
• Integrated Solutions: Partner cross-functionally with wealth advisory, legal, compliance, and operations teams to deliver integrated, high-quality advisory solutions that align with clients’ broader wealth management strategies.
• Firm Development: Drive business growth and market expansion by enhancing Mariner’s investment banking platform, strengthening strategic relationships, and increasing awareness of the firm’s differentiated advisor-aligned capabilities while also mentoring and developing investment banking professionals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Executive-level professional with a Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field, possessing a strong foundation in investment banking principles and practices.
• Experience: At least 12 years of dedicated investment banking experience, with a proven track record of successfully executing middle-market transactions and managing complex client relationships.
• Skills: Possess strong client relationship management abilities, deep transaction execution experience, and hold FINRA Series SIE, 82, 79, and 63 licenses.
