Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
About Company
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is North America’s largest transportation network, serving 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile area encompassing New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. Comprising six agencies, the MTA operates the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. Facilitating approximately 2.6 billion annual trips, its network accounts for about one-third of the nation’s mass transit users and two-thirds of its commuter rail passengers, including 329 million crossings in 2019 via its Bridge and Tunnel authority—the nation’s largest by volume. The MTA is dedicated to providing safe, clean, and efficient public transportation, serving as the lifeblood of the New York City area.
