Junior Distressed Credit Analyst | 9fin

The Tone:

This role is crucial for maintaining and expanding 9fin’s restructuring data offering, ensuring its accuracy and utility for clients, and supporting the company’s acceleration towards becoming the category-defining platform for debt markets worldwide.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analysis: Produce timely, accurate analysis of distressed credit situations across the US leveraged finance and high yield markets.
• Monitoring: Monitor developments across a portfolio of distressed issuers, tracking covenant breaches, rating actions, liquidity events, and out-of-court restructuring activity.
• Modeling: Build and maintain financial models tracking capital structure, debt maturity profiles, and recovery scenarios for companies in or approaching distress.
• Research: Assist senior reporters and editors in researching and fact-checking longer-form investigative pieces on liability management exercises, Chapter 11 cases, and creditor disputes.
• Content & Engagement: Contribute to 9fin’s Default Notice newsletter and other recurring content products, and engage with market participants to develop source relationships and gather market intelligence.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. Strong understanding of corporate capital structures, credit agreements, and the mechanics of debt restructuring.
• Experience: 0–2 years of experience in leveraged finance, credit analysis, restructuring advisory, or financial journalism.
• Skills: Clear and concise writing capable of translating complex financial situations, strong Excel and financial modelling skills, curiosity, self-direction, and the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Bloomberg or other financial data terminals.
