Marketing Communications Fall Intern | Children’s Museum Houston

The Tone:
This is an internship at Children’s Museum Houston, located in Houston, TX. Children’s Museum Houston is one of Houston’s premier cultural institutions, recognized for its award-winning Marketing Communications team. This role offers significant hands-on experience for a student looking to contribute to real projects that support the Museum’s mission and gain valuable integrated marketing communications experience. Interns will develop their skills in public relations, marketing strategy, content creation, social media, advertising, and special events within a nonprofit setting.

• Mission: This person supports the Marketing Communications team in promoting the Museum’s exhibits, seasonal events, educational programming, and fundraising initiatives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Media Relations: Assist with the development and distribution of press releases and media advisories, including researching contacts and maintaining media lists.
• Content Creation: Draft social media content and assist with content calendars, website copy, newsletters, blog articles, and promotional materials.
• Marketing Support: Support marketing campaigns promoting exhibits, seasonal events, educational programming, and fundraising initiatives.
• Event Coordination: Assist in coordinating media visits, interviews, and special events, including photography and videography coordination.
• Research & Reporting: Monitor and compile media coverage to prepare reports, and conduct research on community partnerships, audience trends, and competitive organizations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Digital Media, English, or a related field.
• Experience: No specific years required. Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube is preferred.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Bonus: Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or video editing is a plus.
