Geographic Information Systems Internship | PCF
The Tone:
This is a hands-on internship at PCF, a company that delivers printed media to millions of homes across the Northeast region. As the Logistics Routing & Optimization Intern, you will directly apply your classroom skills to real-world challenges, contributing to new client onboarding, route restructures, geographical updates, and specialized client programs. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact by supporting PCF’s operational efficiency and customer satisfaction through geographic data management and analysis. You will collaborate with various internal departments, gaining broad exposure within the organization.

• Team: This role interacts with Applications Development, IT Operations, and Distribution Operations teams.
• Mission: Help PCF optimize logistics through geographic data management, analysis, and system configuration to meet evolving customer and operational needs.
• Tech Stack: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Maps, Internet, Dart system
What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage Geographic Data: Input, update, and maintain geographic data within databases, collaborating with logistics professionals and other stakeholders on projects.
• Analyze Spatial Data: Examine spatial data to identify patterns, trends, and key relationships relevant to logistics and distribution.
• Configure Routing System: Learn and assist with the configuration of the Dart system to fulfill the changing needs of customers.
• Provide Customer Support: Serve as a customer liaison by providing regular updates on ticket statuses to internal customers and users.
• Support Logistics Operations: Contribute to new client onboarding, route restructures, geographical updates, and specialized client programs from data quality work to project coordination.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Current college student entering their Junior, Senior year, or Masters, enrolled in an academic program majoring in Geographic Information System, Information Technology, or a Logistics Program, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Experience: Familiarity with MS Word, Outlook, Google Maps, Internet, and archive research skills, plus intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to carry out tasks independently. Excellent project management, organizational, and follow-through skill set. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bonus: Preferred coursework from an accredited college or university in GIS planning, engineering, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
