Government Affairs Intern | Business Software Alliance

The Tone:
This is an internship at Business Software Alliance, located in Washington, DC. BSA represents the global software industry, advocating for its policy goals and reputation within government. This role is crucial for supporting the legislative strategy team, offering direct experience in public policy development and the opportunity to contribute to high-priority issues like artificial intelligence, trade policy, data privacy, and cybersecurity. The intern will develop a comprehensive understanding of BSA, its member companies, and the association’s key objectives.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time (at least twenty hours a week)
• Location: In-person, Washington, DC

• Team: Small Legislative Strategy team, reporting to the Senior Director, Legislative Strategy.
• Mission: Support BSA’s policy goals, corporate positioning, and reputation through legislative strategy activities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist: Support BSA’s Legislative Strategy team with their daily work and activities, including attending relevant hearings and events.
• Research: Conduct thorough research on various policy issues pertinent to the global software industry.
• Draft: Prepare memos for the Legislative Strategy team on assigned topics and policy developments.
• Update: Maintain and update internal databases and tracking documents with current information.
• Contribute: Work on other special projects as needed to support the team’s objectives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate or graduate status at an accredited University with an interest in the global software industry and public policy.
• Experience: No specific years required.
• Skills: Strong writing, analytical, and oral communication skills; excellent internet research skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Bonus: Rising junior, senior, or graduate student preferred; previous work or internship experience is a plus; possesses a proactive, can-do attitude and a sense of humor.
