Editorial Assistant, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers | Macmillan

This is a remote, entry-level role at Macmillan, tied to the New York, NY office. Macmillan Publishers is the U.S. trade company that is part of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, a large family-owned group of media companies. They publish a broad range of award-winning books for children and adults across various categories and formats through prominent imprints worldwide. This role supports the editorial director and executive editor for Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, managing administrative tasks and contributing to select editorial projects for an imprint focused on publishing children’s books across all age levels and genres.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Administrative Support: Manage administrative tasks for the editorial director and executive editor, including scheduling meetings, managing libraries, responding to queries, liaising with departments, taking minutes, and drafting memos.
• Process Coordination: Prepare and traffic forms and requests related to all parts of the publishing process, such as metadata input, contract requests, invoices, and payment requests.
• Presentation Preparation: Organize and gather materials for internal and external presentations, including sales launch and edit meetings.
• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain professional and responsive communication with authors and agents regarding various aspects of their projects.
• Editorial Contribution: Provide editorial support by logging, reading, and evaluating submissions, as well as performing proofreading and line editing tasks.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; demonstrated interest in the children’s book market.
• Experience: Entry-level position requiring foundational experience in administrative support.
• Skills: Attention to detail and excellent follow-through; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prioritize, respond to a shifting environment, and work independently; proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace programs.
• Bonus: Proofreading or copy editing experience; previous book publishing experience/internships; previous media or entertainment experience/internships.
