Credit Intern | Community Financial System, Inc.
The Tone:
This is an internship at Community Financial System, Inc. (CFSI), a financial services organization dedicated to providing customers with friendly, personalized, high-quality financial services and products. The company’s retail division, Community Bank, N.A., operates over 200 customer facilities across Upstate New York, Northeastern Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts, while also offering commercial banking, wealth management, investment management, insurance, risk management, and benefit plan administration. This role is essential for supporting the Commercial Credit team’s daily operations, offering valuable hands-on experience in credit analysis, financial statement review, and risk assessment, directly contributing to the success of commercial banking functions and the company’s commitment to its customers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analyze financial statements: Assist the Credit Department with spreading and analyzing detailed financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, specifically for commercial clients.
• Prepare credit documentation: Support the comprehensive preparation of credit memos and risk assessments required for non-MIRE annual reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Research market trends: Conduct thorough industry and market research to gather relevant data and insights that support informed credit decisions.
• Assess client risk: Help evaluate borrower creditworthiness and repayment capacity by examining financial health and other relevant factors.
• Collaborate on projects: Participate actively in Commercial Credit department meetings as appropriate and collaborate effectively with team members on special projects and reporting tasks when needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.
• Experience: A genuine and demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in Banking, evidenced through academic coursework, any previous internship experience, or participation in relevant banking or accounting-related activities.
• Skills: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to professionally and tactfully communicate with employees across all levels of the organization.
• Skills: Demonstrate proficient analytical and organizational skills, along with strong PC proficiency, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Skills: Exhibit the ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and consistently maintain high ethical standards.
