Engineering Intern- Fall of 2026 | IKO North America
The Tone:
This is an internship at IKO North America, supporting a new greenfield plant site. IKO Industries Ltd. is a market leader in the manufacturing of roofing and building materials, a Canadian owned and operated business with production facilities worldwide. This internship is positioned to play a pivotal role in establishing the operational framework for a new greenfield mat plant, contributing directly to the foundational operational structure.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, greenfield plant site
• Mission: Develop comprehensive operational procedures and programs, establishing the foundational operational structure essential for a new greenfield manufacturing plant site.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite
What You’ll Actually Do
• Operational Planning: Maintain the comprehensive Operational Readiness Plan using Microsoft Project, meticulously adding new tasks as they are assigned to the intern and promptly updating the file whenever a status change occurs, ensuring accurate and current project oversight.
• Procedure Development: Undertake the development of a wide variety of essential operating procedures and programs for a new greenfield plant site, utilizing examples and established best practices from other sister plants within IKO to guide creation.
• Documentation Creation: Be actively involved in creating diverse management system documentation. This includes standard operator work instructions, detailed operator and maintenance training documentation, Lock-Out-Tag-Out policies and other critical safety type initiatives, general plant policies and procedures, as well as Preventive Maintenance documents and 5S inspection audits.
• Core Values Adherence: Consistently behave with and uphold the IKO Core Values, which include Sharing Knowledge, Integrity, Long-Term thinking, Performance, Humility, and Agility, applying them continuously and consistently in all aspects of the role.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing a technical degree, or a recent graduate with a technical degree.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to create documents and procedures, coupled with strong organizational skills for meticulous electronic filing of these materials.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, critical thinking, a high degree of organization, effective planning, prioritizing, time management, excellent teamwork, and fluency in both spoken and written English.
• Bonus: Preferably a college Junior or Senior.
