What You’ll Actually Do
• Govern data: Ensure data used for reporting, modeling, and business decision-making within a large financial institution is accurate, complete, and fit for purpose.
• Analyze data flows: Partner with cross-functional teams (Risk, Compliance, Regulatory Reporting, Operations, IT) to document and analyze end-to-end data flows, including data lineage from source to reporting.
• Document metadata: Build and maintain business glossaries and metadata documentation, mapping business definitions to technical data elements and identifying data quality rules and gaps.
• Track lineage and quality: Utilize tools like Ab Initio to support data cataloging and lineage tracking, and conduct reverse data analysis to identify inconsistencies and recommend remediation.
• Drive governance adoption: Collaborate with stakeholders to implement data quality controls, improve processes, and drive governance adoption across the organization.
The Must-Haves
• Background: An early career professional with foundational knowledge or experience in data governance, data analysis, or data quality assurance, ideally within a large organizational setting, particularly a financial institution.
• Experience: Proven ability to document and analyze end-to-end data flows, including data lineage from source systems through transformation layers, and experience in the building and maintenance of business glossaries and metadata documentation. This includes mapping business definitions to technical data elements and identifying data quality rules, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Skills: Proficiency in data governance principles and practices, data quality analysis, data lineage tracking, and metadata management. Practical experience with tools such as Ab Initio for data cataloging, along with strong communication and project tracking skills using Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
