Software Engineer Intern, Internal Apps | Neuralink

The Tone:
This is a high-autonomy, high-ownership internship at Neuralink, located in South San Francisco, CA. Neuralink is creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain, with the goal of restoring movement to the paralyzed, sight to the blind, and revolutionizing how humans interact with their digital world. This Software Engineer Intern role is crucial for building the centralized data aggregation and analysis platform, directly impacting Neuralink’s engineering and experimentation efforts and mission with immediate, tangible results.

The TL;DR

• Location: In-person, South San Francisco, CA
• Pay: $35 hourly
• Team: Internal Apps team works closely with neuroscientists, physicists, chip designers, pathologists, and mechanical engineers.
• Mission: This person designs and implements software solutions to build Neuralink’s centralized data aggregation and analysis platform, driving engineering and experimentation.
• Tech Stack: Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript

What You’ll Actually Do
• Work directly alongside engineers and scientists to build software with immediate, tangible impact on Neuralink’s mission.
• Architect and implement elegant software solutions, often through rapid prototyping, to solve company-wide problems.
• Develop data platforms to collect, organize, and visualize a diverse set of data, including neural signal recordings, device telemetries, surgery recordings, and experimental data.
• Build Lab Systems software to serve as the digital collaboration hub for all internal teams within the company.
• Create ERP software that orchestrates and tracks everything involved in designing brain-computer interfaces.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student interested in architecting and implementing elegant software solutions.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to ship a product that has been actively used by others, regardless of the specific tech stack or domain.
• Skills:
• Full-stack engineering capability, with a strong preference for experience in Ruby on Rails, React, and TypeScript, although adaptability across various tech stacks matters more.
• The ability to design and implement simple and elegant software solutions.
• Strong communication and collaborative problem-solving abilities for working across diverse technical and scientific teams.
• An ownership mentality, comfort with ambiguity, and a fundamental understanding of how software works at its core.
