AI Engineering Intern, Summer 2026 | QED Investors
The Tone:
This is an AI Engineering internship at Prosper, located in San Francisco, CA. Prosper is a leading fintech company focused on advancing financial well-being through innovative digital personal finance products, having pioneered peer-to-peer lending. The company is transitioning from rigid software to an Intent-Driven Orchestration approach, aiming to build fluid, real-time adaptive tools and web pages that cater to user intent. This role is critical for developing the engine that translates complex company knowledge into immediate, successful actions across all platforms, moving beyond simple chat functionalities to create autonomous or partnership-driven problem-solving AI systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• System Connectivity: Build and use Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers to securely bridge the communication gap between large language models and Prosper’s extensive internal and external data ecosystems.
• Knowledge Synthesis: Develop advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines that efficiently transform vast, evolving documentation into a dynamic “Source of Truth” to support real-time decision-making processes.
• Fluid Interface Logic: Engineer sophisticated workflows that prioritize information relevancy over mere frequency, ensuring that both internal professional tools and external web pages surface precisely the right data at the opportune moment for users.
• GCP Implementation: Deploy and optimize these critical AI services using Google Cloud Platform’s Vertex AI suite, guaranteeing high-speed execution, stringent privacy standards, and robust security measures.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, bringing a foundational understanding of AI engineering principles relevant to developing intelligent systems.
• Experience: Proven experience working with Function Calling mechanisms and practical application of AI orchestration frameworks, such as LangGraph or Vertex AI Reasoning Engine.
• Skills: Core programming proficiency in Python and Java; demonstrated AI specialization in areas like Function Calling and orchestration frameworks; high proficiency in leveraging AI coding assistants to navigate complex deployments and optimize system architecture.
