2026 Summer Intern – Engineering and Field Operations | Hudbay Minerals U.S. Business Unit
The Tone:
This is a internship at Hudbay Minerals U.S. Business Unit, located in Helvetia, AZ. Hudbay is a copper-focused mining company with extensive operations and growth projects across Canada, Peru, and the United States. This role provides motivated students with practical, hands-on experience in a live mining environment at the Copper World project. Interns will contribute directly to the site’s ongoing development by assisting with essential engineering, survey, and field operations.

• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CAD software
What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Support: Assist with detailed field surveys, including flagging roads, pads, and other infrastructure projects.
• Data Management: Use CAD software and other mining-specific applications to maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches of work performed.
• Technical Reporting: Research previous survey evidence and physical records to prepare and present findings to Engineering and Operational personnel.
• Safety & Compliance: Participate in health and safety documentation and follow-up to ensure accurate reporting and a safe work environment.
• Operational Exposure: Gain experience in various mining circuits, which may include drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in a degree program related to Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a similar technical field.
• Experience: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Skills: Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions (hot/dry) and near moving mechanical parts. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for the daily commute to the Copper World site.
• Bonus: Experience with CAD software or drone piloting.
