AI Automation Intern | North

The Tone:
This is a hybrid internship at North, located in New York, NY. North is building the next-generation cloud spend management platform, providing real-time visibility, control, and automation over cloud finances to help businesses scale efficiently. This role is crucial for identifying and eliminating inefficiencies through automation, internal tooling, and AI-powered workflows, ensuring the engineering team and other functions operate effectively and swiftly.

The TL;DR

• Team: Embedded within the engineering organization, supporting the CTO and collaborating with product, security, and engineering teams.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Support the CTO’s automation and internal tooling initiatives, progressing to broader engineering team workflows and business processes.
• Automate: Identify and automate recurring manual tasks across various functions using AI tools and scripting.
• Optimize: Audit internal tools, documentation, and existing workflows to recommend and implement improvements.
• Research: Research and test automation frameworks, agent-based tools, and AI productivity helpers for potential integration.
• Collaborate: Partner with product, security, and engineering teams to remove bottlenecks and improve overall delivery velocity.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A student looking to gain real-world tech experience, with an interest in automation, cloud infrastructure, or AI-driven workflows.
• Experience: Has worked on automation-related projects previously.
• Skills: Comfortable reading and writing code (Python is a plus) and working with at least two different Large Language Models (LLMs) such as OpenAI, Claude, Mistral, or Cohere. Demonstrates organization, attention to detail, curiosity about engineering team operations, and is a strong communicator willing to ask questions and offer ideas.
• Bonus: Familiarity with development tools like GitHub, Python, or scripting; an interest in cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP; experience using AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Grok for automation; understanding of agentic workflows and automation tools; or previous internship or personal project experience related to automation, scripting, or developer tools.
