Sustainability Intern | Bright Harbor Healthcare

The Tone:
This is an unpaid internship for college credits at Bright Harbor Healthcare, located in Toms River, NJ. Bright Harbor Healthcare is an organization deeply committed to promoting environmentally responsible practices across all its operations, encompassing both its facilities and diverse programs. This Sustainability Intern role offers a unique and impactful opportunity to directly contribute to these crucial efforts. The intern will work closely with our dedicated team to enhance and implement a range of sustainability initiatives, playing an instrumental part in fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and integrating sustainable approaches into the organization’s daily functions and community outreach, ultimately contributing to a greener and more responsible footprint.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Evaluate: You will assist in thoroughly evaluating Bright Harbor Healthcare’s existing sustainability practices, diligently pinpointing specific areas where improvements can be made across both facilities and diverse programs.
• Develop: You will help design, create, and implement new, effective sustainable initiatives and engaging educational programs tailored for staff and community members.
• Research: You will conduct comprehensive research on current and cutting-edge best practices in sustainability, specifically identifying those applicable and beneficial within healthcare settings.
• Organize: You will provide active support in the meticulous planning, coordination, and successful execution of various sustainability-focused events and interactive workshops designed to raise awareness and promote participation.
• Report: You will assist diligently in documenting all sustainability efforts undertaken, meticulously preparing detailed reports to track progress, highlight achievements, and inform future strategies for internal and external communication.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a student in a degree program, demonstrating academic focus in environmental studies, sustainability, or a closely related environmental field.
• Experience: Possesses a strong, demonstrable interest in actively promoting sustainability and contributing to environmental stewardship within an organizational context. No prior professional experience is required, but a genuine passion for the mission is essential.
• Skills: Exhibits excellent communication abilities, strong organizational skills to manage tasks and projects effectively, and the proven capacity to work both autonomously on assignments and seamlessly as part of a collaborative team.
• Bonus: Holds a foundational familiarity with established sustainability concepts and common practices, which will be a significant advantage in successfully navigating the responsibilities of this role.
